Coil is dense and heavy, so the container fills long before the deck is empty. The way the coil is packed and loaded therefore decides the tonnes you move per container, and that decides your freight per tonne far more than the mill price does.
Two details are worth agreeing in advance. Eye orientation determines whether the coil can be lifted and fed into your line on arrival. Coil weight determines what your crane can handle: a coil that is cheap per tonne is no use if it cannot be lifted on site.
Protection matters too. Steel is exposed to moisture for weeks at sea, so edge damage and rust are the usual causes of claims. Agree the wrapping, the edge protection and the desiccant plan before the material is packed, not after it arrives.
